About the Project

“Srpski spomenici” (Serbian Monuments) is the umbrella database of Serbian monument heritage — in Serbia, the region and the world.

Srpski spomenici is not a list of monuments on the territory of one state. Until now there was no single public digital database of Serbian monuments regardless of state borders: the new database brings together monuments of Serbian historical and cultural heritage wherever they are, in one place, by uniform principles, in Serbian and in both scripts.

“Cultural heritage is not just a testament to the past, but a guidepost for the future of a nation.”

The register covers monasteries and churches, fortresses and towns, memorials and cemeteries, public monuments, necropolises and markers, architectural heritage and archaeological sites, arranged by type and by country and region. Alongside the register are an interactive map, a chronology, an overview of Serbian sites on the UNESCO World Heritage List and a section dedicated to endangered heritage.

The platform is part of the Serbian Historical Corpus. The project is run by Kulturni element, with technical development and design by the Digital Element agency.
