Following a highly successful and well-attended first concert-lecture held in late 2017, another event followed that illuminated the cultural history of Serbia. On Wednesday, January 24, 2018, a concert-lecture entitled "Miss at the Piano" was held in the Residence of Princess Ljubica.
This event was realized as part of the accompanying program of the current exhibition "Anastas Jovanović - Art and New Media", in a fruitful collaboration between the Cultural Element and the Belgrade City Museum, and within the Musical Vaults of Belgrade cycle.
What exactly was the role of the "miss at the piano" and who was actually the first Serbian "miss at the piano"? Through an inspiring concert-lecture, the answers were revealed to us by pianist Dina Čubrilović and lecturer Dr. Srđan Teparić, music theorist, assistant professor at the Faculty of Music Arts in Belgrade, and critic for Radio Belgrade.
Wealthy Serbs of that period sent their children to study abroad, where music was obligatorily learned. Soon, instruments from which the sounds of Beethoven, Schumann, Brahms, Chopin, and Schubert echoed found themselves in many houses, and the young heiresses of the families always had a special and honorary place at that house piano.
