The concert-play "Amadeus" represented the continuation of the highly successful "Portraits of Composers" series, created within the cycle "Musical Vaults of Belgrade" in collaboration with the Belgrade City Museum. After previously delighting the audience with the story of Tchaikovsky, director Tadija Miletić staged a new, ambitious stage work dedicated to the life, work, and intriguing personality of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart on April 26, 2017, under the vaults of the Residence of Princess Ljubica.
Relying on extensive documentary material, original notes, and authentic letters that Mozart exchanged with his family and contemporaries, the play provided a deep, intimate insight into his life. Combining dramatic narrative and top-tier musical performance, the play portrayed not only the genius composer, but also a man of flesh and blood - his fears, loves, specific humor, and inexhaustible creative energy.
Prominent artists who enriched their music-making with strong dramatic expression shone on stage. The role of Mozart himself was played by tenor Stevan Karanac, while his wife Constanze was portrayed by soprano Jovana Čurović. In addition to them, violinist Katarina Aleksić performed as Anna Maria Mozart, baritone Ivan Plazačić as Count Menzel, and pianist Dina Čubrilović in the role of Mozart's sister Nannerl, with the acting support of young Emilija Nestorović and Isidora Milinović.
The visual identity of the era was perfectly evoked by the sumptuous costumes designed by Aleksandra Lalić, as well as wigs made in the art studio "Artestre". The musical program included carefully selected pearls from Mozart's opus - famous arias from the operas The Abduction from the Seraglio, The Marriage of Figaro, and Don Giovanni, along with the recognizable Turkish March and elegiac Andante cantabile. The quality and lasting value of this play were confirmed during the 2020 pandemic, when the event was broadcast as a live stream, recording high viewership and reaching a completely new audience.
