The concert-play "Chopin and George Sand", based on the text by Dina Čubrilović and directed by Tadija Miletić, explores the complex and intriguing relationship between the famous composer Frédéric Chopin and the controversial writer George Sand. Premiering on June 2, 2018, in the intimate atmosphere of Princess Ljubica's Residence, the play is part of the "Composer Letters" edition, realized within the third season of the Musical Vaults of Belgrade cycle.
Nikola Štrbac in the role of Chopin and Tamara Radovanović as George Sand, accompanied by pianist Vuk Božilović, lead the audience on a journey through a whirlwind of passion, artistic aspirations, illness, and social norms of the 19th century. Through dramatic scenes and Chopin's timeless compositions, the play illuminates the depths of their personalities and an entire palette of emotions — from tender love to bitter misunderstandings.
This is yet another collaboration between Cultural Element and the Belgrade City Museum, following the great success of concert-plays about the lives and works of Tchaikovsky and Mozart from the same edition. By weaving together drama and music, "Composer Letters" continues to bring audiences back into the inner worlds of great creators — those who most often left their writing behind in notes.
